LES ANTÍPODES, IN COLLABORATION WITH BÒLIT, CENTRE D'ART CONTEMPORANI, GIRONA, AND MUSEU DE L'EMPORDÀ, FIGUERES, OPENS A NEW EDITION OF THE NUMÈRIC RESIDENCY PROGRAMME, THIS YEAR DEVOTED TO “THE WORD” AND TO LARGE LANGUAGE MODELS (LLMS).

THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS 8 SEPTEMBER, AND THE RESIDENCIES WILL TAKE PLACE IN NOVEMBER, COINCIDING WITH LES ANTÍPODES' PUBLIC PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITIES, THIS YEAR IN AGULLANA AND FIGUERES, ALT EMPORDÀ, AND IN CERET, VALLESPIR.

The Numèric 2026 call will award two research and creation residency grants. It is open to artists, thinkers and scientists of any discipline and origin, and applications may be submitted from 23 July to 8 September.

This year's conceptual framework starts from the word as an instrument and material of creation, present in widely differing cultural traditions, in order to question large language models, the systems behind artificial-intelligence tools such as ChatGPT or Claude.

For the first time, these models generate language autonomously, without experience or intention, and raise fundamental questions: what do they mean for authorship, originality, creativity and thought? Numèric invites us to explore them and to engage with them as uncomfortable interlocutors, away from utopian and dystopian discourses, from artistic practice and critical thought.

Each selected project will receive funding of 1,000 euros, in addition to coverage of round-trip travel within the European Union, support and accompaniment, accommodation and meals during the four weeks of the residency, which will take place from 2 to 30 November 2026. The residencies will run simultaneously and will conclude with a public presentation of the work carried out.

Proposals are submitted through the form available at lesantipodes.com, in Catalan or English. Each person or collective may submit a single application. The selection will be made by a committee formed by Les antípodes and members of the collaborating entities, and the decision will be made public on 22 September.
